Planned Obsolescence...

Is my new nickname :(

Did ya miss me, wondered where I've been? Well guess what? BOTH my computers crashed yet again!!! ACKKKKKKK!

I'm back and the good news is I have found a local computer guy who is a complete genius (love you Eric, you ROCK!!) albeit a spendy one...but worth his weight in gold!

I'm coming to you via my much beloved 7.5 year old Gateway Solo that needed a new hard drive which I installed last Monday and which died last Tuesday! Eric tells me that nowadays most of the computer companies put crap hard drives in their products that you have to have to replace within 6 - 12 months cause that's how they make their $$! Hence the planned obsolescence - Splendid! When did shoddy American "craftsmanship" become an acceptable standard? Ok, that's a whole different rant :)

And what of my other computer, you say? You mean the very expensive, still under warranty, been serviced at the evil mother ship (Gateway) and in my home five times and been thru the same # of hard drives in 18 months as well as having the processor and memory replaced twice computer? Well aside from the fact that all the Media Center software components are missing, the screen is completely black altho the lights flash, nothing comes up on the screen and the freakin thing turns itself on at off at will! Eric is sure it's the motherboard, the ONLY component that hasn't been replaced! And so the battle royale # 667 with Gateway begins only this time if I don't get a brand new computer I am filing a complaint with the South Dakota Atty. General (last time I only threatened) OK, OK this is a knitting blog so moving on....

The other good news is no computer = lots of knitting so I have 1 new FO and 1 new WIP to show you but since I only got back on line late yesterday I think I'll hold off a day or so before posting new pics.... I hope y'all understand!

I will post a pic of my studly P-Man cause at least that will make y'all smile til I'm back, right?

Aside from chicken, this is probably the P-Man's favorite thing...he loves to snuggle up next to me and have me scratch his head and nose really hard - then he opens his mouth and makes a snorgle-snuffle noise of pure pleasure. It's really cute but very hard to capture but capture it I did! Isn't he cute? :)

Ok wish me luck, I'll be back with actual knitting in a day or too! Tah!

That's one kitty porn picture, Debbi; I can just see the ciggy smoke being exhaled and hear the "god, that was good, babe" whispered in your ear.

Sorry about the 'puter woes. Your story makes me very glad I continue to use my local guy for service and upgrades. If Jamie fails me, I'll just complain to his Dad (my mechanic) and his mom (my friend).

That picture of P-Man made me snort! I had a cat who when you scratched just the right spot on his back would make the low gutteral noises and flick his tongue like a snake. It was hilarious!

That cat is in heaven.

And look! I can comment!

Damn, and I was hoping I sent my techno-jinx to Canada...not Florida.

Aww, Deb - that just sucks. When computers go wrong, they go really wrong.
But, looking at the P-man must really lower your blood-pressure!

I think you captured kitty nirvana purr-fectly! Again, so sorry about the computer issues. Can't wait to see your knitting projects.

Sorry to hear the computers are ganging up on you. Majorly cute kitty photo!

I cannot believe your terrible luck with computers. That reminds me, I should go do a backup.
Great, now Lucy and Willie want head rubs. I think that P-man photo should be x-rated.

I'm almost afraid to say hi, for fear that horrible, rotten, no-good, nasty luck will wear off on me!

Hugs to you and the P-Man!

"Oh, yeah bay-bee," is what Pumpkin seems to be thinkin'...

Re: the computer, I believe I uttered the words "it's probably the motherboard" the other night. Glad someone came in who seems to know which end is up!

That's a happy kitty!

You are scaring me, as I am in the market for a new computer. However, I made the decision to spend a little extra and buy my system through a small, local computer repair/service outfit in town. If you buy through them, a service contract is included. Not only will I not have to call overseas for 80 minutes to talk to a live person for help, I know where they are if I need them in person.

Still scared, though.

Great cat photo.

Soemthing must be in the water because my new computer crashed yesterday! Only 2 months old and after 4 hours on the phone I had to reinstall the OS anyway...losing 2 months of stuff (at least I back up sometimes...it is supposed to do it every night but due to an incompatibility it doesn't...subject for another rant).

Anyway...gateway definitely owes you a new computer. I'll be interested to see if they do the right thing.

What a terrific shot of P-Man!
Yes, "heaven. He's in Heaven..."

I would definitely have written SOMEONE a nasty letter of complaint by now, Deb. Go for it!
(((hugs)))

What a happy boy! My Louie's favorite thing is for me to hold the slicker brush while he rubs his face on it over and over.

You've had so many issues with thsoe computers. Here's hoping for no more computer problems!

Why just 3 days ago I decided (after similar Gateway battles) that they had won the war. Except mine passed out of warranty moments before expiring.

Good to see you back. Sorry about the computer woes (Anyone want to comment on Dell?? (because it will be a very long time before I buy another Gateway.))

Glad you're back; sorry about the sucky computer issues. I'd definitely contact the AG if they don't give you a new one!

As always, P-Man is adorable. He's really loving the head rubs!

Wow. Once again sorry for the computer issues (though at this point, "issues" really seems like too mild a word). It is a shame that we seem to just accept shoddy stuff these days - in clothes, electronics and even customer service. We accept that it's just the norm now. What ever happened to the days when customer service or workmanship actually meant something? *sigh*

Hope things continue to stay up and running for you. I miss when I don't get P-man picts :-)

Of course I miss you! I was actually prepared to do the update for you tomorrow if necessary ... but it's always good to read yours. :)
That P-Man pic is just perrrfect!

I'm glad you're back! What a great shot of the P-man!

I was wondering where you were....Glad to see you up and running, even thou you teased us with a promise of FO knitting. Snuggles to the P-man.

We did miss you! Glad you are back. Let's keep it that way.

"When did shoddy American "craftsmanship" become an acceptable standard?"
When WalMart started ruling the retail industry. They single-handedly have forced businesses to stop manufacturing in the US (levis and Converse to name two) as well as make their products cheaper. All in the name of giving you lower prices. Are you feeling the value?

Okay, sorry for the rant. Touchy subject.

I've never bought a Gateway. I've had several dells and current computer is a HP. I've had pretty good luck up to now but customer service with the computer companies is awful.

P-man is so very handsome.

Carol said...

Oh no!!! I'll take 2 pics of the P-Man please...

I can't believe your computer is down again! What a mess. I hope you get a class action suit against them, or something, cuz I'm sure you're not the only one with issues.
The p-man is adorable! I love that face =)

That is without a doubt, one of the best kitty pictures ever!

I just LOVE THAT PMAN!!!!!!!!!!! I hope your computer problems get straightened out for good soon!

Oh I feel your pain-computer pain, that is. Good luck getting it up and going again and I'm glad to hear you've had a productive computer break. Isn't it amazing how much you can get done without the computer? :)

Aww - that P-Man is so cute! (And dang, but you have had the worst luck in computers, Girl!)

Chris said...

Alas re: your computer woes! :( Um, and gosh, I'm really glad I didn't buy Gateway last time around...

Catherine said...

Oh, that face! He's precious! So glad you're back with us. Computer problems like that would drive me insane - I had perpetual software glitches on my old Dell (just like on one of the Mac commercials) before I surrendered and bought a Mac. I suggest that as your last ditch solution - after you get revenge on Gateway, that is!

Hey, my security word ends in "ewe" - I'll take that as a good omen!

P-Man your such a cutie!

comptuers, don't even get me started, and shoddy craftmanship, oh boy, that's something we've just come to accept I think. But we shouldn't, because we pay good money, that we work hard for. That's why I'm not a fan of Noro, while I love their colors, all the knots drive me insane for a top dollar yarn.

Tier 5 on my Forest Path! Picturse this week I hope, if life calms down a bit.
